Bio

Dr. Gustafson grew up in Eatontown, NJ. He worked at the Monmouth County ASPCA in Eatontown during his school years. Dr. Gustafson earned his B.A. in Biology from Franklin & Marshall College in 1981 and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University in 1986, where he was a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society. He graduated Summa Cum Laude. Today, Dr. Gustafson focuses on surgery, endocrinology, and oncology. He has been with Essex Animal Hospital since 1989.

Dr. Gustafson has loved animals ever since he had his first pet, a beagle named Cookie. He is married to another veterinarian, Dr. Phyllis King, and they have a daughter, Jennifer. They share their home with their dog Pepper and their four cats named Sirius, Apple, Tabby, and Dennis the Menace. Among his many memorable experiences as a veterinarian, he remembers one that stands out: fixing the leg of a dog that another vet said couldn't be done.

Dr. Gustafson's hobbies include bowling, swimming, woodworking, and model-building.
